About the GRCF

The Greater Rustenburg Community Foundation (GRCF) is a community grant-maker and capacity builder that has served the Bojanala region of the North West Province, and the greater part of South-Africa in recent years since 2000. We are committed to creating real and sustainable change within our community, with a focus on socio-economic development of the most impoverished, rural regions of Bojanala and beyond.

Here at the GRCF, we support the philosophy that “the discourse of development has evolved over the years from one of doing development to the people, to doing development for the people, to doing development through the people, with the people and finally today, to acknowledging and empowering people as the primary owners and focus of their own development” – (Booy and Sena, Nov 2000).

During the past 10 years, the GRCF piloted and successfully  implemented an innovative and highly effective Social Development Programme in the urban, informal settlements and rural communities of the broader Bojanal Region of the North West Province. This paradigm, known as Community Asset Mapping (CAMP), guides communities in identifying their assets, revealing to them that they are wealthier than they realise, and assists them in identifying sustainable development projects by focusing on these assets.

Furthermore, the GRCF advocates for “CHANGE and not CHARITY” and why organizations should change their development approach and discourse from one of service delivery to one of citizen engagement for the good of all.

The GRCF is a local, independent philanthropic grant making and support organization offering services to both donors and grantees.

The GRCF builds permanent invested funds, offers philanthropic advocacy and non-profit support services, and runs Programmes that help identify the individuals and organizations that display the potential to have the greatest impact on development in their communities. These combined services assist donors in achieving their strategic philanthropic goals while enabling non profit organizations to deliver more effective services and build stronger communities.

CAMP

The GRCF piloted an innovative and highly effective Social Development Programme in the rural town of Mathopestat In 2009. This paradigm, known as Community Asset Mapping Program (CAMP), guides communities in identifying their assets, revealing to them that they are wealthier than they realise, and assists them in identifying sustainable development projects by focusing on these assets. The GRCF then funds successful projects and supports role-players and organisations identified through CAMP.
